ST. JUDE PARISH
17 MOUNT OLIVE ROAD, BUDD LAKE, NEW JERSEY
Rosary Altar Society
The primary purpose of the Rosary Altar Society is to praise and honor the Blessed Virgin Mary and to secure her patronage by the recitation of the Rosary for the mutual spiritual benefit of all the members throughout the world. The society provides care and upkeep of the Sanctuary, Eucharist and Daily Chapel, and assists charities at the discretion of the clergy. Members also support the needs of the Rosary Society and Church at large. The Rosary Altar Society meets the First Monday of each month except September (2nd Monday), and January, July and August (no meeting).
The Charter for the St. Jude Rosary Altar Society was signed on October 28, 1964 and currently hangs in the Sacristy off the Daily Chapel. The St. Jude Rosary Altar Society was founded by six women of St. Jude Thaddeus Roman Catholic Church: AnnaMarie Andershonis, Eleanor Baker, Helen Brodie, Ida Flanagan, Ethel Kuzma and Elizabeth Puco. These ladies became the Charter Members of the Rosary Altar Society.
The original officers were:
Ethel Kuzma – President; Eleanor Baker – Vice President; Elizabeth Puco – Treasurer; Helen Brodie – Secretary. The main purpose was to honor Mary and support the parish.
Today, the Rosary Altar Society still maintains the altar, altar cloths and vestments and continues to support our parish and community. In the past year, September 2012 through June 2013, we have held a baby shower for residents of Birth Haven (and we plan to do so again in 2013-2014), we washed and rehung the curtains in the Parish Center, we hosted three Coffee And’s… and Fr. Joe’s farewell reception, we supported the Youth Group’s Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build weekend with baked goodies for breakfast and lunch, we supported the Parish’s First Annual Landscaping clean-up by members being part of the work crew as well as baking goodies for the work crew’s lunch break. Instead of a gift exchange among members at our Christmas Meeting, the Rosarians created a giving tree of gift cards. $1,000 worth of cards were dispersed through the Rectory to those in need over the holidays. Money was given to Fr. Joe to cover the painting of the inside of the Church. This was completed last Spring. Rosarians, through our Care Committee, have provided meals for families in need, rides to church, doctor appointments and grocery shopping for members of our parish.
HOW TO BECOME A ROSARIAN
If you would like to belong to a viable and vital organization of St. Jude’s Parish, we invite you to come to our next meeting to learn more about the Society and meet our members. Membership is open to any woman of the Parish who is 18 years of age or older. We look forward to meeting you! Are you a Rosarian who has been away for awhile? Come back – this is going to be an exciting year – our 50th Anniversary! Come to our next monthly meeting. We look forward to welcoming you back!
50 RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS
The St. Jude Rosary Altar Society will celebrate its 50th anniversary on October 28, 2014. It has been proposed that throughout 2013 – our 50th year – each Rosarian would do 50 Random Acts of Kindness in Mary’s name from October 26th of 2013 to October 26, 2014. That seems like a lot but we can do it and what fun we will have doing it! It would be an awesome way to celebrate the 50th year in true Rosarian fashion and an awesome gift to Mary. Of course, the beauty of Random Acts of Kindness is that only the doer of the Act and the recipient know about the Act. The acts will be written anonymously on cards and put in a gift box to place before Mary at the Anniversary Mass. Please click here to go to a site for some ideas of Random Acts that have been performed by others.
FIRST FRIDAY / FIRST SATURDAY
Rosary Altar Society members actively support both First Friday and First Saturday devotions celebrated at St. Jude. Participation in both these devotions carries with it special graces and blessings. Further details are available at these sites: First Friday Devotion and First Saturday Devotion.
