Reverend Jesus Antonio Gaviria began his training in Colombia with the Vincentian priests; later he studied philosophy in Medellin, Colombia at the Vincentian Seminary and four years of theology at Pontificia Universidad Bolivariana in Medellin. Fr. Antonio also studied French at the Cavilam Institute in France for one year. After finishing his studies, he came to the Diocese of Paterson to learn English and to be ordained.

His diaconate ordination at St. Peter’s Church in Parsippany on December 8, 2005 was followed by his ordination to the priesthood by Bishop Arthur J. Serratelli at Saint John the Baptist Cathedral in Paterson on May 27, 2006. Father Antonio’s first assignment as a priest was at Sacred Heart Church in Dover; later he became the associate pastor of both Sacred Heart and Holy Rosary Church in Dover. In January of 2010, he was transferred to Saint Vincent Martyr in Madison. Father Antonio says he had the grace and the privilege to celebrate his fifth anniversary as a priest at Saint Vincent Martyr parish.

All Father’s family, two brothers and a sister, live in Colombia which is why he vacations in Colombia each year so that he can share time with them.
