GIFTS FROM BETHLEHAM
Olivewood Handcrafted from the Holy Land

The Olivewood carving industries has evolved as a cultural tradition of the Christians over many centuries. Many Holy Land Christians in the Bethlehem area alone rely upon the income generated from this art form. The items are carved by local craftsman. Many Families are facing critical situations. Without income, many craftsman and families leave their tradition trade and emigrate with their families to find relief from the difficult conditions of their Homeland. Christian presence in the Holy Land has extended from the Pentecost to the present. 55 years ago Christian represented more than 28% of the population and now represent less than 2%. The loss of Christians in the land of Christianity’s birth will represent a tragedy of immeasurable proportions for the billion of Christians worldwide. Carvings will be available to purchase on February 6 and 7in the hallway the parish center. The breakfasts are prepared by the St. Jude Hospitality Committee, the Rosary Society, and the Knights of Columbus.
